2010. Departure (Bird Flew series). Watercolour marker on paper, 18 in x 24 in. ///
This is an aching, acrid representation of the imagined return as an im/migrant. It is the recognition that the journey is the only place of wholeness. It is a vision of a longing, like the ache of a lost traveler. It pays homage to the kingfisher who migrates back and forth, alone, year... after year and yet, as Dogen the Japanese Zen master says, "leaves no trace behind and does not need a guide." If we long to live in two places at once and cannot, survival insists that we abandon the earth and claim the sky.
2010. Split (Bird Flew series). Watercolour marker, ink and acrylic on paper, 18 in x 24 in. ///
When we are split open. When we have lost control. When things fall apart. This is what lies at the heart: sheer communion.
2010. Vulnerability (Bird Flew series). Watercolour marker on paper, 18 in x 24 in. ///
This piece is about the vulnerability of the Robin and with it, us. The robin sings into the night, always unaware of what a new day will bring. There is fear excitement, joy. This work is about the unknown and about being okay with it, singing to it with our most beautiful voices. Bird Flew is a series of paintings about the lessons we can learn from birds. By example, birds teach us some of the most basic truths of life. © 2012 Meera Sethi Creative. /// misc@meerasethi.com |
